The pelican is a well known genus of the species pelicanidae. A water-based bird, the pelican has a large strong beak with an elastic pouch that is used for carrying and filtering its food.
Pelicans are quite entertaining to watch and feed. Pelican-feeding is very popular around Australia, and organised pelican-feeding tours are held at a number of seaside tourism hotspots. If you are looking for such an experience, you might like to visit San Remo (Philip Island, Victoria), The Entrance (Cental Coast, NSW) or Kingscote (Kangaroo Island, SA) for instance.
